What services do you offer?
Our core services are hardscaping, driveway and walkway paving (pavers, concrete and asphalt) and concrete masonry. We also build paver patios, outdoor steps, stone masonry, walkway and driveway landscaping, retaining walls, garden and seating walls, fire pits, outdoor kitchens and Belgian block curbing.
How much does a paver patio cost in NJ?
It depends on size, access, the paver line, borders, steps and how much soil has to come out, so we don’t quote from a price list. We look at your property and give you a free written estimate with the full scope spelled out.
Pavers vs. concrete vs. asphalt for my driveway?
Asphalt is the most economical and plows well, but needs sealing over time. Concrete gives a clean, bright surface with a long life when jointed and cured correctly. Pavers cost the most, look the most upscale and can be repaired one section at a time. We’ll compare all three for your home at the estimate.
How long does installation take?
It depends on the size of the project, the material and the weather. You get a schedule with your estimate, and we keep you posted if weather moves it.
Do I need an appointment for an estimate?
Yes, appointments are required. We offer estimates online, by phone or by email, whichever fits your schedule.
Are you a registered NJ contractor?
Yes. Mana Concrete LLC is a registered New Jersey Home Improvement Contractor, Reg. #13VH10566200.
What are your hours?
Our hours are Mon–Sat, 8:00 am – 7:00 pm.
Hardscaping
What does "hardscaping" include?
Hardscaping is everything built of stone, pavers, block and concrete around your home — patios, walkways, driveways, steps, retaining and seating walls, fire pits and outdoor kitchens. We plan them together so levels, materials and drainage work as one design.
Can you design the whole backyard, not just one piece?
Yes. Most of our hardscaping projects combine a patio with steps, a wall or a fire pit. Planning it all at once avoids mismatched materials and lets us set grades and drainage for the whole yard.
How much does a hardscaping project cost in NJ?
It depends on size, materials, access and how much excavation the site needs. We don't price from a list — we visit, measure and give you a free written estimate with the full scope spelled out.
Driveway & Walkway Paving
Pavers vs. concrete vs. asphalt — which is best for my driveway?
Asphalt is the most economical and handles plowing well, but needs sealing over the years. Concrete gives a clean, bright surface with a long service life when it's jointed and cured correctly. Pavers cost the most, look the most upscale, and can be repaired one section at a time. At the estimate we compare all three for your house and budget.
When can I drive on a new driveway?
It depends on the material. Pavers can usually take traffic once compacted and sanded; asphalt and concrete need curing time, concrete the longest. We give you the exact date for your job.
Do you remove the old driveway?
Yes. Tear-out, hauling and disposal are included in the estimate — no surprise dumpster charges.
Can you pave the walkway at the same time as the driveway?
Yes, and it usually looks best that way — matching borders and materials, with the walk tied cleanly into the driveway.
Concrete Masonry
Why does concrete crack, and can you prevent it?
Concrete shrinks as it cures and moves with temperature, so some cracking is normal. Control joints tell it where to crack — in a straight line inside the joint instead of across the slab. A compacted base and proper drainage prevent the bigger problem — settling and heaving.
What concrete work do you do?
Driveways, sidewalks, front walks, patios, pool decks, steps and slabs. We also combine concrete with pavers — like a concrete driveway with a paver border, or a concrete patio with paver bands.
How long before I can walk or drive on new concrete?
Foot traffic comes well before cars, and concrete needs the longest cure of any paving material. We give you the exact timing for your job and weather.
Should new concrete be sealed?
For driveways and walks that see de-icing salt, sealing helps. We'll explain the options at the walkthrough.
Paver Patios
How much does a paver patio cost in NJ?
It depends on size, equipment access, the paver line, borders, steps and how much soil has to come out. We don't quote from a price list. We look at your yard, then give you a free written estimate with the scope spelled out, so you can compare it line by line.
Pavers or a concrete patio — which is better?
Pavers cost more up front but come in more colors and patterns, and single units can be lifted and reset if something ever settles. A broom-finished concrete patio is a clean, budget-friendly surface; we cut control joints so cracking happens where we plan it. We also combine the two, like concrete with paver bands or a paver border.
Can you build a raised patio or a pool deck?
Yes. Raised patios get a retaining-wall face, steps and a soldier-course border. Pool decks are pitched away from the water, and we work around coping and drains. You can see both in the photos on this page.
How soon can we use the patio?
A paver patio can be walked on as soon as the joints are swept and compacted, but the polymeric sand needs dry weather to cure. We give you the exact schedule and care steps at the walkthrough.
Outdoor Steps
Can you replace crumbling concrete front steps?
Yes. It's one of our most common jobs. We remove the old steps, build a new solid base and core, and finish in pavers, stone veneer or concrete.
Can you add lights to the steps?
Yes. LED step lights are set into the risers with the wiring hidden inside the steps — safer at night and a big upgrade to the entry.
Do steps need a permit?
Some towns require one for front steps or for steps above a certain height. We'll tell you at the estimate what applies in your town.
Stone Masonry
What is stone veneer?
Stone veneer is a facing of real or manufactured stone set over a solid core, like block or concrete. You get the look of solid stone on steps, walls, pillars and kitchens without the weight and cost.
Can you match stone that's already on my house?
We bring samples to the estimate and pick the closest match in color and texture. Exact matches to older stone aren't always possible, and we'll tell you up front.
Will stone veneer hold up to NJ winters?
When it's set over a solid, well-drained core with proper caps on top, yes. Water getting in behind the stone and freezing is what loosens veneer, so caps and drainage matter.
Walkway Landscaping
What's the difference between walkway paving and walkway landscaping?
Paving is the walking surface itself. Walkway landscaping is the design around it — the curve, the border, the beds, pillars and lighting — so the walk looks like it belongs in the yard. We do both together.
Do curved walkways hold their shape?
Yes, if the edges are restrained. We compact the base and install edge restraint along both sides so the curve doesn't spread over time.
Can the walkway connect the driveway, front door and backyard?
Yes. Connecting those spaces is usually the point. We plan one route with matching materials from the driveway to the door and around to the patio.
Driveway Landscaping
Can you add a border to my existing driveway?
Often yes. We cut a clean edge along a sound concrete or asphalt driveway and set pavers or Belgian block against it. If the driveway itself is failing, we'll tell you — and replacing it with the border built in may make more sense.
Will a border get damaged by snowplows?
Borders set in concrete or locked with edge restraint hold up well. Belgian block is especially tough, which is why you see it along so many NJ streets.
What's the best upgrade for a plain asphalt driveway?
A Belgian block or paver border and a matching walkway to the front door. It changes the whole front of the house for a fraction of the cost of a full paver driveway.
Retaining Walls
Why do retaining walls lean or bulge?
Almost always it's water. Wet soil behind a wall is heavy, and freezing makes it push harder. That's why we backfill with clean drainage stone and add drain pipe where the site needs it, instead of putting the dug-out soil back.
Do I need a permit or an engineer?
Taller walls, or walls that hold back a driveway, a structure or a steep slope, can require engineering and a permit, depending on the town. We tell you at the estimate if your wall falls into that category.
Can a retaining wall be part of a patio or pool area?
Yes. Raised patios and pool decks on sloped yards often need a wall. You can see one on this page holding the slope beside a pool deck.
Garden & Seating Walls
What's the difference between a garden wall and a retaining wall?
A garden or seating wall is mostly decorative. It frames a bed or a patio and holds little or no soil. A retaining wall holds back a slope and needs more structure and drainage. We'll tell you which one your project actually needs.
How high is a seating wall?
We build it at a comfortable bench height and cap it with smooth, wide caps so it works as extra seating around a patio or fire pit. We confirm the exact height with you during design.
Can you add lights to the wall or pillars?
Yes. Low-voltage cap lights and pillar lights can be planned in so the wiring is hidden inside the wall.
Fire Pits
Can you add a fire pit to my existing patio?
Often yes, if the existing patio is in good shape and the spot meets your town's setback rules. We look at it during the estimate.
Wood-burning or gas?
We build the masonry for both. Gas fire features need a licensed gas line installation, so we coordinate that part separately.
Are fire pits allowed in my town?
Most Central NJ towns allow recreational fire pits with rules on distance from the house and property lines. Check your town's fire code. We'll place the pit with those distances in mind.
Outdoor Kitchens
Do you handle gas, electric and plumbing?
We build the masonry structure and leave openings and chases for utilities. Gas lines, electrical and plumbing must be installed by licensed trades, and we coordinate with them.
Can you build a kitchen on my existing patio?
Sometimes. An outdoor kitchen is heavy, so it needs a solid base underneath. We check your existing patio at the estimate. Often the best result is building the kitchen and the patio together.
Which grill should I buy first?
Pick your built-in grill and appliances before construction. We size the openings to their cut-out dimensions.
Belgian Block & Curbing
Why set Belgian block in concrete?
Curbing takes hits from tires and snowplows. Setting each block in a concrete base with concrete backing keeps the line straight and stops blocks from rolling out.
Can you add Belgian block to an existing driveway?
Yes. We cut a clean edge along the existing driveway and set the curbing against it. It's one of the most cost-effective upgrades for an asphalt driveway.
Do you replace curbing damaged by plows?
Yes. We reset or replace damaged sections and match the existing line as closely as the stone allows.
