Paver & Concrete Contractor in Old Bridge, NJ
Old Bridge is one of the towns we work in most. From Laurence Harbor on the bay to the developments off Route 9 and Route 18, we build patios, driveways and walkways that hold up to sandy soil and NJ winters.
Old Bridge is a big township — about 40 square miles — and the housing reflects it. There are ranches and split-levels from the 1960s and 70s, colonials on curving streets in later developments, and newer homes on larger lots. Many of the original concrete patios and asphalt driveways from those decades are reaching the end of their life: cracked, sunken near the house or heaved at the edges. Homeowners are replacing them with pavers or new concrete done right.
Building on Old Bridge soil
Much of Old Bridge sits on sandy coastal-plain soil. Sand drains fast, which is good under a patio, but it doesn’t hold its shape on its own. A patio laid on poorly compacted sand will spread at the edges and dip where people walk most. So we:
- excavate and compact the subgrade before any stone goes in;
- build the stone base in lifts, compacting each one;
- install edge restraint so the outer rows can’t drift;
- pitch the surface so roof and lawn water runs away from the house.
Near the bay in Laurence Harbor, wind-driven rain and salt in the air are part of the picture too. Proper joint sand and a tight pattern help pavers stand up to both.
What Old Bridge homeowners ask us for
- Backyard paver patios with charcoal borders, often with a fire pit
- Driveways in pavers, concrete or asphalt, often with a Belgian block or paver border
- Curved walkways and new front steps
- Retaining walls for the sloped lots near Cheesequake and the wooded sections

Questions from Old Bridge homeowners
Do you work in all parts of Old Bridge?
Yes — Laurence Harbor, Cheesequake, Madison Park, Browntown, Sayre Woods and the neighborhoods along Route 9, Route 18 and Route 516.
My Old Bridge yard is sandy. Does that change how a patio is built?
Sand drains well, which helps, but it shifts if it isn't confined and compacted. We compact the subgrade, build a dense stone base in lifts and lock the edges with a restraint so the patio doesn't spread.
Do I need a permit for a patio or driveway in Old Bridge?
It depends on the scope. Driveway work, curb cuts and walls can require township approval. We'll go over what applies to your project at the estimate.
