Paver Patios for Parlin homes
Parlin is the Sayreville section most of our clients there call home. Capes, ranches and newer townhomes, each with its own hardscape needs.
Built for Parlin ground
Clay is common in Parlin. It holds water and swells when it freezes — the main reason older driveways and patios here heave and crack. For paver patios, we excavate below the soft layer, replace it with a compacted stone base and pitch the surface so water runs off instead of soaking in at the edges.

A patio is the room you use most from May to October. In New Jersey it also has to survive the months in between: freeze-thaw cycles, plowed snow piled on the edges and the spring rains that follow. That’s why the part you never see — the base — gets most of our attention.
What makes a paver patio last in NJ
- Excavation to stable soil. Topsoil and organic material come out. Leaving them in is the main reason patios sink in the first few winters.
- Compacted stone base. Dense-graded aggregate is placed and compacted in lifts, not dumped in one pass. The depth depends on your soil and use, and it is written in the estimate.
- Pitch and drainage. Every patio sheds water away from the foundation. Where downspouts empty onto the patio area, we plan for it before the pavers go down.
- Edge restraint. Without a restraint, the outer rows spread over time and the joints open up. Ours is installed below the finished grade.
- Polymeric sand. Swept into the joints and activated with water, it hardens to resist weeds, ants and washout.
Styles and materials
Most of our patios combine a field color with a darker border, like the charcoal soldier course you’ll see in the gallery below. We install large-format slabs, tumbled and multi-tone pavers, and classic rectangles in running bond or herringbone. Concrete patios get a broom or smooth finish, and we can frame them with paver bands.
Popular add-ons:
- Fire pits built into the patio
- Seating walls and pillars
- Outdoor kitchens and grill islands
- Lighted paver steps down from the back door

Paver Patios in Parlin: common questions
How much does a paver patio cost in NJ?
It depends on size, equipment access, the paver line, borders, steps and how much soil has to come out. We don't quote from a price list. We look at your yard, then give you a free written estimate with the scope spelled out, so you can compare it line by line.
Pavers or a concrete patio — which is better?
Pavers cost more up front but come in more colors and patterns, and single units can be lifted and reset if something ever settles. A broom-finished concrete patio is a clean, budget-friendly surface; we cut control joints so cracking happens where we plan it. We also combine the two, like concrete with paver bands or a paver border.
Can you build a raised patio or a pool deck?
Yes. Raised patios get a retaining-wall face, steps and a soldier-course border. Pool decks are pitched away from the water, and we work around coping and drains. You can see both in the photos on this page.
How soon can we use the patio?
A paver patio can be walked on as soon as the joints are swept and compacted, but the polymeric sand needs dry weather to cure. We give you the exact schedule and care steps at the walkthrough.
Is Parlin a separate town?
Parlin is part of the Borough of Sayreville, with its own ZIP code (08859). For permits, Sayreville's rules apply.
I have a small backyard. Is a patio worth it?
Usually, yes. A well-planned patio with a border makes a small yard feel bigger and more usable. We plan the layout around doors, steps and the fence line.
